Star

Eric and I received a sad email this past week. Many of you have met our dog, Star. She is currently living with my dad in Florida. One of the hardest things about leaving was saying goodbye to Star. That might sound silly to some of you but she is our baby.

Well apparently Star was having some eye problems which led to the iris rupturing in her left eye. She was taken to the vet where the only option was to remove her eye. I still can't write it or think about it without crying. It hit both Eric and I very hard. She seems to be recovering well, but we seem to be in a state of mourning. Star is very rambunctious and loves to play fetch so we are mourning for how this loss might affect her quality of life. However, she is too full of energy to be too slowed down too much. Dad has assured us that she is being a good patient. We don't know if you have ever prayed for a dog, but we are asking anyway.

Star if you see this, "We miss you and love you!"

I'm so sorry about Star. Sometimes the old snail mail was easier when one learned long after the fact. Of course that brought other problems. I guess nothing helps when it's about loved ones. That picture you chose (which I have hanging up) shows her wonderful, eager eyes. I believe dogs can learn to accommodate far better than humans, so I expect she'll be able to play well by the time you see her again!

Good to hear from the Smith's even if it is of sad news. I have been praying for a lot of dogs lately. Marlo and Terry's dog is also having health issues. I will keep Star in prayer although it seems to be hitting you harder than it is hitter her. Isn't it amazing how animals can seem to easily accept the obstacles they are handed and us humans seems to fight them.... sometimes I wish I could just trust God enough to know he has a much better plan than any I can come up with. She will be fine and you can trust God has the ultimate plan for us all. Hope all is well in Africa.... things are going well here in Springfield.

Keeping you in prayer.... K-

So sorry to hear this! We've been going through tough times with dogs as well as out of the blue Freddie had two seizures on Sunday. I didn't sleep at all Sunday night as he was also having breathing attacks and I was sure we were going to have to put him down. The good news is, he is now on seizure medication and seems to be improving. I believe that God hears our prayers for our animals (His creation), so I will keep Star in prayer as well. Must be hard being far away. We miss you guys.

Thank you everybody for your concern and prayers. Dad says that Star is doing well, and he will send a picture of her as soon as her lampshade protector thing (don't know what else to call it)can come off.

We hope that Freddie continues to do well on the seizure medication, Marlo. We will be praying for him.

Love to all of you,
Martha (for Team Smith)

And so at last catching up on all of your news and laughing and crying and marveling with you, and, well, marveling at you.

Thank you for the vivid updates, the photos, and the challenges you pose us.

Have to add that you 2 are the most photogenic couple I know.

Also, feel compelled to add something I heard Sledge say--that the reason, in Zaire, that the goat milk was unpalatable was b/c they did not separate the males and females, so the hormones were all whacked out, making the milk whacky, too. Not sure if that note will help any of the goat entrepreneurs.

In 2 weekends we will be heading to the farm. I hope to get Sledge and Jon catchin' up on your blog then. (I am not too tech savvy, so hopefully this will at least come through!)

I love you both and send you hugs and wishes of good health, peace, happy work, and continued absence of ants.
